US R&B singer D'Angelo is recovering after being thrown from his car in a road accident in Virginia last week.

The 31-year-old, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from his vehicle when it crossed a roadway and struck a fence last week.

D'Angelo was hospitalised for several days but is now recuperating at home.

The singer was arrested in January after marijuana and cocaine were found in his car at a police traffic stop.

Just prior to the accident he was given a three-year suspended sentence for cocaine possession.

He was also found guilty of marijuana possession and driving under the influence of alcohol, charges that led to his driving licence being suspended for 18 months.
