The Irish Penal Reform Trust says an all-out ban on smoking in prisons is unrealistic.

The group say if the authorities cannot prevent the use of drugs in prisons, they will never be able to stop smoking.

Dr Valarie Bresnihan is worried about the consequences of prisoner stress levels, as a result of the ban.

She says a compromise should be found.
