More warnings of flooding as rain set to continue
19/11/2009 - 13:55:43

Flooding is causing chaos for motorists across the south and west of the country.

Many roads are impassable including secondary roads in Cork and Kerry border.

A number of rivers have burst their banks, following an overnight deluge.

Ennis and North Clare have also been badly hit and levels in the River Suir in County Tipperary are increasing at the rate of 60 millimetres an hour.

Emergency services are on full alert and Clonmel Town Clerk Billy Doyle says it will get worse as the day progresses.

Mr Doyle said: "Based on the information that's coming through our systems and based on the forecast that we've got, there's probably another 20-25 mm of rain through the day into the hours of darkness.

"We could be looking at initial property flooding at around 6pm or 7pm this evening," he added.
