Two people died in a fire that destroyed a supermarket on the outskirts of Asuncion in Paraguay.

Firefighters and police recovered the bodies of two dead men from the wreckage after yesterday’s fire but 1,500 people escaped. Six people were injured and taken to hospital.

The incident raised memories of a supermarket fire in central Asuncion five years ago that killed 420 Paraguayans.
